Installing Blender 3D

Wednesday, May 21 2008 -

In this short article I will go through the process of installing the Blender 3D Application. When we have finished you will have a fully working 3D Modelling system that will allow you to create the assets you need for your projects.

The first stage is to make sure that you have the latest version of the Blender 3D Application, you can et this from the Blender site at www.blender.org.

For the Windows system I suggest that you download the Installer Package as well as the separate ZIP File. The installer will allow you to install the system like you would any other Application, but having the zip file means that you have a backup of any of the files and scripts in case you need to roll back some of your modifications.

You do not need it but it is suggested that you install Python 2.5 on your system before you install the Blender Application. If you do not have the application you will not be able to use external scripts or compile your own.

Once you have downloaded the package start the install off by double clicking on the installer.

Click next and go on to the next screen...

On this screen you will be presented with the normal Application License Agreement, read through it and make sure you understand it, then click "I Agree".

On the next screen you will be presented with the different application modules to install, in most cases you would leave all of these selected and move on to the next stage.

Now comes that part where you would select the location to install the application to, in most cases this would be left as Default, press next to move on.

The next option allows you to redirect the storage of the Users Data, in most cases this would be left as default, but here you have the choice to change it. Press Next to move onto the next stage.

Once the above stages are complete the application will begin to install.

During this stage you will be presented with the following dialog.

This dialog is just informing you that the system requires some DLLs installed on the machine. If it doesn't find them it will install the required files. Once you press ok the installer will continue.

When the installer has completed you will be present with the above dialog box, at this point you have the choice of starting the application now or not. But in any case the install has been completed and you are now able to start using your Blender 3D System.
